Letter from DenyseFriends,
I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to represent the 16th District. I am proud of what I have accomplished as your State Representative since I was sworn in. Last year I passed six bills as chief sponsor, with two more of my bills incorporated into other bills. In 2021, I sponsored or co-sponsored 32 bills that were sent to the Governor's desk. Thanks to much hard work, persistence, and your support, we were able to pass HB1092, my bill to strengthen the Firearms Restraining Order! But there is still so much more work to be done. This is why I am running for re-election! I am more motivated than ever to work on your behalf to reduce gun violence, improve healthcare, and protect our environment. I would be honored to have your help in my re-election, whether it is displaying a yard sign or helping volunteer. Complete the form below to request a yard sign, and email info@denyseforstaterep.com to sign up to volunteer. Thank you for visiting my website. Be well and stay safe! About Denyse
Denyse was raised in Skokie and has been a resident for over 30 years. Before being elected to represent the 16th District, she was already a community leader and activist working on issues that our community cares about, from fighting for a higher minimum wage to increased transparency, and more citizen participation in government.
Following the Sandy Hook School shooting in 2012, she founded People for a Safer Society, an Illinois nonprofit organization to fight gun violence. She helped pass landmark gun violence prevention legislation, and was instrumental in stopping the opening of a gun shop and range on Howard Street in Niles, near Niles West High School.
In her first year as a legislator, Denyse passed major gun safety legislation to strengthen Illinois' Firearms Restraining Order Act to prevent mass shootings, hate crimes, gun homicides, and suicides. She has also strongly supported women’s rights—including reproductive rights—through her work in the legislature.
Denyse lives in Skokie with her husband. She is honored to represent the diverse 16th District and is seeking a second term in office.
